What is Wedding Cancellation/Postponement insurance?

The cancellation/postponement policy protects the non-refundable deposits on everything connected with the wedding, should it be cancelled or postponed for a covered reason. This is the investment you would lose if you were forced to reschedule your wedding at the last minute and lost all of your non-refundable deposits.

Do I really need Wedding Cancellation Insurance?

With weddings, anything can (and does) happen. Severe weather keeps close family members from being able to travel. Your maid-of-honor requires emergency surgery. Your bridal store suddenly files for bankruptcy, keeping your dress and your deposit. You’ve invested a lot of money in your wedding; what if you were forced to postpone or cancel it? You’d suffer some serious financial losses -- unless you had a policy like WedSafe’s Wedding Cancellation insurance.

WedSafe’s Cancellation insurance provides you with financial reimbursement for losses and expenses, including lost deposits or other charges you’ve contracted for, for all aspects of your wedding. WedSafe’s Cancellation policy goes several steps further to provide coverage for vendor no-shows; losses to professional pictures or wedding videos; lost, damaged or stolen gifts; damaged or loss of wedding attire; damage or theft of wedding rings. WedSafe even covers professional counseling if needed following a cancellation or postponement.

What are some covered reasons for a cancellation/postponement?

Some of the covered reasons are: severe weather conditions such as hurricanes/blizzards; sudden illness/injury to the bride/groom or immediate family member; job loss; venue bankruptcy; and withdrawal of military leave.

Do you cover ’change of heart’?

No, this policy does not cover change of heart, nor can it be added to the policy.

What is meant by ‘severe weather’?

WedSafe’s cancellation/postponement insurance will provide coverage if the weather conditions are extreme enough to prevent the couple, their immediate families, their attendants, or the majority of their guests from attending the wedding, or which renders the building structure itself Unusable or Unsafe (as defined in the policy).

Can you clarify ‘sudden illness or injury’?

WedSafe’s cancellation/postponement insurance will provide coverage if there is a sudden illness or injury to the bride or groom, or an immediate family member (parents, grandparents, siblings and children), provided the illness is NOT related to a pre-existing medical condition. (A pre-existing medical condition means a condition where medical care, advice, consultation or treatment was received within 12 months prior to the purchase date of the policy.)

What is meant by ‘Withdrawal of Military Leave’?

WedSafe’s cancellation/postponement insurance policy will provide coverage if the bride or groom is serving full-time active duty in the armed forces or police or fire departments and must postpone the wedding when a previously granted written leave is withdrawn due to circumstances outside of their control (i.e. unforeseen deployment). Activation of a U.S. military reservist that requires deployment to more than 150 miles from the wedding location would also be covered.

How are the sub-limits used?

The sub-limits beneath each level of Cancellation are for the day of your wedding. Assuming the wedding itself takes place, but you encounter issues (i.e. a no-show vendor, damage to special attire, lost or damaged photos), you are covered up to the dollar amount shown for that particular category. These categories do not apply prior to the event taking place.

What level of coverage should I choose?

You should choose a coverage level that most closely matches your total wedding budget. Add up what you’ll spend on your ceremony, reception venue, caterer, photographer, videographer, flowers, special attire, cake, music, and any other purchases you’ll make for your wedding. Since wedding budgets vary widely, WedSafe offers ten different overage levels to choose from, ranging from $7,500 to $175,000.

Can I customize the policy?

Since WedSafe wants to keep premiums as affordable as possible for our couples’ budgets, we cannot honor individual requests for customized policies.

When should I buy Wedding Cancellation/Postponement insurance?

Wedding cancellation/postponement insurance can be purchased as early as two years before your event, or up to 15 days before your event. We recommend purchasing this coverage as soon as you begin to put down deposits and make purchases so your financial investments will be protected from the start.

What if I have already made deposits or purchases for my wedding? Will they be covered if I purchase Wedding Cancellation/Postponement insurance now?

Yes, deposits and purchases you‘ve already made can be covered, providing you have receipts/documentation for them and did not know of any impending or existing claim situations when you purchased the insurance.

Am I covered if my wedding is held outside of the U.S.?

Yes, WedSafe’s cancellation/postponement insurance covers events taking place in (and on cruise ships departing from) Canada, Puerto Rico, or any territory or possession of the U.S. (i.e. the U.S. Virgin Islands).

Does WedSafe’s Cancellation/Postponement insurance have a deductible?
