What is Wedding Liability insurance?

Wedding liability insurance is a specialty policy designed to protect and reimburse the wedding couple for certain losses from accidents that occur during the rehearsal, wedding and reception. Wedding liability insurance covers items such as damage to the facility caused by a guest or vendor, bodily injury to guests, or even alcohol-related accidents.

Do I really need Wedding Liability Insurance?

Many venues require couples to purchase their own liability insurance, which is designed to protect and reimburse the couple for certain losses from accidents or property damage that occur during the rehearsal, wedding ceremony, and reception. Most venues also require a host liquor liability provision which extends the liability coverage to include alcohol-related incidents. WedSafe’s liability policy includes this provision, and was designed in consultation with leading venues to ensure it satisfies industry-standard requirements.

Besides cancellation, damage to the venue and to guests’ property made up 21% of WedSafe’s claims in 2017, while Slip and Fall Injuries accounted for 18%. How do I purchase a Wedding Liability policy?

You can purchase a WedSafe liability policy directly on our website using a major credit card or your PayPal account. It’s quick, easy and secure. Once you purchase, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your policy documents attached.

Can my venue be listed on the policy?

Venues that are listed on your application will be named as additional insureds. A Certificate will be generated for each venue and sent with your confirmation email.

Who should be the ’Named Insured’ and what does that mean?

The ‘Named Insured’ is the person hosting the wedding; often the bride or groom, or a parent of the bride/groom, if that person has signed a contract with the venue or has a significant financial stake in the wedding. The couple and any other ‘Named Insured’ are all protected under the policy. (The venue should NEVER be listed as the ‘Named Insured.’)

Does WedSafe’s Liability policy have a deductible?

There is no deductible for general liability coverage (bodily injury); however, there is a $1,000 deductible applicable to third-party property damage claims.

Is the Wedding Liability policy primary insurance?

Yes, if the ‘Named Insured’ is solely at fault in a claim, the wedding liability policy is primary insurance for both the ‘Named Insured’ and any additional insureds listed on the policy. This information is stated directly in the Master Policy; no Endorsement is needed.

My venue has specific wording to be added to the Certificate of Insurance. Can WedSafe accommodate this?

Many venues have already provided us with their required wording, which will be automatically inserted on the venue’s copy of the Certificate of Insurance. (You can search a list of preloaded venues when applying for coverage.)

If your venue is not listed, simply select ’Other’ and enter the venue name and address, and complete your purchase. Should any changes need to be made, simply reply to your confirmation email with the changes.

Can I list multiple dates on the application?

While only the wedding date will be listed on the Certificate, the timeframe covered by your policy includes the rehearsal, ceremony and reception that occur within 48 hours of the wedding date. The coverage also includes set-up and breakdown at the venue that occurs no more than 24 hours prior to the wedding, and no more than 24 hours after the wedding.

Can I add my vendors to my liability policy as additional insureds or purchase a policy in their names?

The venue is the only entity that can be added to the Certificate as an additional insured. Your vendors may be able to obtain their own coverage at the K&K Insurance website or by calling them directly at 1-800-328-2317.

My venue requires liability insurance for set-up and tear-down, as well as the rehearsal dinner. Does WedSafe provide this?

WedSafe’s liability policy provides coverage for the day of the ceremony/reception as well as for 24 hours prior and 24 hours after to accommodate set-up and tear-down. If the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner occur within 48 hours before the wedding, they will also be covered.

What is Host Liquor Liability insurance?

Host Liquor liability insurance provides liability protection against bodily injury or property damage suits brought by parties injured as a result of an intoxicated guest who was served alcohol at an event you hosted. Our liability policy only excludes liquor liability coverage if the ‘Named Insured’ on the policy is ‘in the business’ of manufacturing, selling or distributing alcoholic beverages.

What is the ‘RPG Fee’ listed on the application?

The structure of the coverage under the program is being delivered through the Risk Purchasing Group (RPG). Each member receives their own certificate of insurance as their evidence of coverage. The limits of insurance apply individually to each insured member; there are no shared limits of liability with any other members.

We strive to provide the most competitive rates and coverage, and we believe this solution allows us to offer that to our customers. The nominal, one-time fee of $15.00 charged is to offset the expenses of maintaining and administering the RPG. We believe the overall cost for the coverage offered is extremely competitive.

My venue is asking for a separate Endorsement Page. Can you send that?

WedSafe’s liability policy has a Blanket Endorsement, so no separate Endorsement Page is needed. You’ll find this clarification on Page 15 of the liability policy.

My wedding runs past midnight. Will I be covered?

Yes, coverage will be provided if your wedding runs past midnight at the location listed on your insurance documents, until the time the event ends at that location, up to 24 hours after the wedding.

Is purchasing Wedding Liability insurance from your website safe?

Our web application uses state-of-the-art security measures and is monitored daily by independent web security certification service McAfee Secure.

Whom do I call if I have to make a claim?

You should contact the Claims Department at K&K Insurance Group, Inc., as soon as possible. You can reach them toll-free at 1-800-237-2917, Monday – Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm ET. In an emergency, there is an after-hours service available to assist you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
